The Cryptocurrency Workshop organized by Research Center For Islamic Economics and Finance (RECISEF) was held on 7 March 2018 at the senate hall of the presidency of Sakarya University.
The workshop which has shown great interest began with the speech of the vice president of Sakarya University. The first session of the program was held under the presidency of Takasbank general director Mahmut Kayacık, with the aim of defining the technology and cryptocurrency. TUBITAK/BILGEM department manager Assoc. Dr. Mehmet Sabri Kiraz, deputy general director of Takasbank Ekrem Arıkan and RECISEF research assistant Mervan Selçuk made speeches about the importance of cryptocurrency in terms of giving direction to the future of digitalization period.
In the second session led by Prof. Dr. Ali Kaya, who is the member of the theology Faculty of Uludağ University, RECISEF director Assoc. Dr. Süleyman Kaya discussed the subject in terms of jurisprudence. Kaya categorized the problematic aspects of cryptocurrencies with respect to Sheriah under nine tittles. He stated that currencies which are used in present have also some of these problems and therefore cryptocurrency does not seem to have a serious problem that would prevent to be licit.
In the third session of the program the topic which is ‘Publich Institution’s view on the Cryptocurrencies’ were evaluated. In the session under the presidency of Prof. Dr. Necdet Şensoy, member of the Central Bank Parliament, chief expert Murat Yönaç on behalf of BDDK and expert Betül Üzer on behalf of Central Bank made their speeches.
In the fourth and last session, the advantages of cryptocurrencies were presented by all participants under the chairma ship of Prof. Dr. Ahmet Faruk Aysan, the dean of the Faculty of Bussiness and Management Sciences of Istanbul Sehir University.
The program ended after the questions and evaluations of the participants. At the end of the program participation certificate were presented to participants. RECISEF Director Assoc. Dr. Süleyman Kaya thanked all the attendants and expressed his satisfaction.
