“Interest from Islamic Economy Perspective” Workshop Performed at RECISEF Hosted

5th Workshop of Islamic Economics, organized by partnership of Islamic Economics Research Center (IERC), Scientific Studies Association (SSA), Turkey Venture Economics and Business Ethics Association (TVEBEA) and Research Center For Islamic Economics and Finance (RECISEF), was performed in March 31, 2017 in Istanbul and on April 1-2, 2017 in Sakarya with the title “Interest from Islamic Economy Perspective”.

The workshop, which was hosted by Sakarya University, was the subject of interest this year. More than 20 participants from different countries presented in the workshop and discussed the interest issue from the perspective of Islamic Economics. In this context, bringing together academicians working in the field from home and abroad, it was emphasized what kind of problems the current interest system has in economic, political and social areas and tried to suggest solutions for this. In the workshop; the topics were intended to argue are Interest in the Muslim societies and the alternatives that constitute this system, the process of transition from the interest-free economic system to the interest-free system and the role of the state in an interest-free economic system, the relations between production in the interest-free system and the future economic structure based on today’s debt.

In general, the main aim of the Islamic Economic Workshop is to find solutions to the problems that the current economic system reveals, especially the problems encountered in the Muslim countries. The Islamic Economy is being studied increasingly in the literature and becoming a contemporary quest that has been debated in many ways. These workshops focus on selected topics in Islamic economics. Through these studies, the current situation is reassessed and new working areas that need to be done in the future are determined. In this context, it is aimed to contribute to today’s economic problems by discussing the issues from different perspectives about both the theoretical and the application areas. In addition, through these workshops, it is aimed to make actual and concrete contributions to help the Muslim world get out of the economic and political turmoil that has been going through the last few centuries.
